Our Equality Strategy for 2010 - 2012 is to work with internal and external bodies to promote equality and diversity within financial services:

  1. Network with other marginalised groups to share infomation on issues and develop integrated strategy
  2. Continue to liaise with our international colleagues in addressing the issues of financial exclusion
  3. Work with financial institutions, the IBF and Financial Regulator to ensure access for all
  4. Promote greater awareness within MABS on the issues of exclusion and support MABS in addressing such exclusion

  • Identify key strategic groups, organisations and networks with whom NTMABS can liaise
  • Through networks, facilitate a space for critical debate regarding the challenges and opportunities of  equality based service delivery
  • Highlight issues of financial exclusion and identify methods of addressing issues
  • Develop a clear strategy to implement change
  • Evaluate actions, document feedback and outcomes, and incorporate into planning future actions

Continue to Liaise with Our International Colleagues in Addressing the Issues of Financial Exclusion

We undertake to:

  • Work with our European colleagues such as the ECDN and EAPN in addressing the issues of exclusion throughout the community
  • Keep abreast of changes internationally by maintaining links with related international organisations
  • Continue to examine alternatives to mainstream savings and credit which are in use worldwide

Work with Financial Institutions the IBF and Financial Regulator to Ensure Access for All

We undertake to:

  • Continue to liaise with the Financial Regulator, the IBF and financial institutions to ensure policy and guidelines are put into practice
  • Document issues of exclusion which arise and feed into other relevant channels
  • Meet with IBF on diversity awareness training for all bank officials
  • Work with the IBF on more detailed training for bank officials on the Anti-Moneylaundering Guidelines
  • Aim to participate in the Financial Regulator’s working group on financial literacy
  • Evaluate actions, document feedback and outcomes, and incorporate into planning future actions

Promote Greater Awareness within MABS on the Issues of Exclusion and Support MABS in Addressing such Exclusion

We undertake to:

  • Submit proposal to CIB on the importance of compulsory and accredited diversity awareness training for all staff delivered by an accredited professional body
  • Highlight issues of exclusion in our newsletter, MABS publications and on our website
  • Raise awareness within MABS of practices which may lead to exclusion
  • Support MABS in addressing such exclusions and ensure its services remain accessible to all
  • Promote the introduction of an Ethnic Identifier in MABSIS
  • Evaluate actions, document feedback and outcomes and  incorporate into planning future actions
